I live in a rather unusual voting district. Lots of people live here but very few of them can vote because a lot of them are kids or immigrants who haven't been naturalized yet. (That being said, I want to emphasize how much respect I have for the fact that pretty much every immigrant I've ever met took voting extremely seriously.) Because of this, I have to vote by mail ahead of time rather than go to a local polling place on Election Day. I don't like this because I don't trust the mail so I go to put my paper ballot in these boxes that are just made for that. There are some near the county assayer's office which is in another neighborhood in Oakland so roomie and I filled out our ballots and it was a nice night so we decided to walk over there. Because we accidentally took the wrong bus trying to get back home we wound up having to walk for about two and a half hours all together. (It was, at least, an interesting walk.) This was compounded by the fact that I'd taken a walk yesterday morning and spent about 45 minutes on the exercise bike that afternoon. My legs feel like somebody used a sledgehammer on them. I took a very hot shower earlier this morning which helped a little, not a lot. Roomie's boyfriend is coming over later today and I had already agreed to go out to give them some privacy. I normally go for long walks on these occasions and look forward to it but I think I may mostly hole up in the library and some cafe or bar or something this time around.
I am very happy for roomie and his boyfriend though. Apparently this is their anniversary and roomie's boyfriend's parents are taking them out for dinner at this French restaurant I've heard is really good.

Washington is a mail-in ballot-only state, so I've never actually been to the "polls". It was a bit confusing when I moved overseas because I was trying to register to get an absentee ballot, but eventually found out that because WA does mailing anyway, I just had to update my address and they'd send me the ballot extra early so I'd have time to fill it in and post it back across the ocean.

... except they let me scan my ballot and send it in via email, too. Which I end up doing because it's easier and free, but it makes me feel a little weird about the whole thing.
