Some creep has been running up purchases on my credit card. I don't know how because I didn't lose it and i certainly haven't been letting anyone else use it, but i had to go to the bank today and take care of a lot of rigamarole bullshit (at least the ladies who worked at the bank were very nice and helpful) but i can't get reimbursed right away because they have to do an investigation. i got a new card and they cut up the old one.

Thats horrible :( happened to my mum a few years back when she was trying to book a holiday on her main card and found that it got declined. Someone has spent many thousands of dollars at a strip club/casino in Russia (we lived in the usa at the time). When she rang the bank they asked if she was sure she hadn't recently been to Russia to buy strippers and beer. One would think that's something youd remember :p

At least its a credit card not a debit card, and all money is insured! People can clone stuff all sorts of ways and get hold of info from shops, both online and offline. :( hope it gets sorted quickly!

actually it is a debit card. I'm not at all sure when i will get reimbursed, but at least it was only $70 not thousands and i caught it before I could get an overdraft!

That's sucky. I know a lot of major stores like Target have been hacked lately, so they might have gotten it off a database or something. I hope it all gets fixed for you soon.

me too. I just had to call the bank back because one of the charges that I had thought was fraudulent turned out to be legit. i forgot roomie talked me into buying some goddamn piece of computer equipment for one of his friends several weeks ago. I'm not doing that again. (the other charges are still bullshit.)

That sucks, it happened to my coworker too. Some thieves can hack into card-swiping machines and that allows them to get your card number without stealing the actual card.

i didn't even know that was possible.

Yeah, that is why I prefer using credit cards to debit cards. Even if someone steals the card number, my money doesn't disappear from my bank account. I just see a charge and dispute it.
