I hope this diet I'm starting late this month actually works and I don't go too crazy. I fully admit to being emotionally hung up on food.

You and me both. Food is such a source of comfort for me.

I've started eating healthier (cut WAY back on sugar, processed foods, bread and starches) and I have lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks. The cravings are lessening and now I find myself craving the healthier food. So, if I can do it you can do it.

Have you ever checked out a program such as Overeaters Anonymous? It's for people with all kinds of food issues, not necessarily just overeating. It addresses emotional eating. It tends to be free, to my knowledge.

I'm entering into another program. I can't deal with 12 step stuff, they can't shut up about god for five minutes and I'm a hardcore atheist.

Good luck! I've been trying to eat less since the beginning of jan and it's been going well so far. I think the reason it's succeeding this time is that I allow myself to have a treat once a week (take away curry, or a piece of cake, or pizza ;)) which makes it not so bad to not eat crap the rest of the time. Also, I've found portion size was my biggest problem--I am still eating quite a lot of the same things, just less of them. Getting some decent scales and weighing out portions really helps (for example, I still eat cheese, just only 20-30g at a time instead of half a block, cutting down the cheese to 100ish cals instead of god knows how many cals). Calorie counting does work for me, so I track my food on my smartphone. I'm sure you could do the same in a little notebook/on your computer if you don't have a smart phone (idk if you do :)). I find it sort of keeps me more accountable if I write down what I eat.

Good luck!

I wish I could just have sex with Hugh as a substitute for eating what I shouldn't, I'd probably lose weight really fast, hehe.
