Found out yesterday that they are getting closer to having to work on the part of the bldg. I live in, so I'm going to have to move all my stuff to another apt. for almost two months. Not sure when I'm going to have to start doing that. Glad I've got roomie to help but this is going to be a HUGE hassle, starting with having to throw away all the stuff I don't use. I've been living in this apartment for twenty years and I'm not one of those crazy hoarders but a lot of stuff has built up.

Haha I hear ya! God help us if we ever move out of here. We're both pack rats!

My plan is to declutter when I'm back home. I used to be good at it because I moved every other year, then I lived ten years in the same place, got three kids, and now I have this terrible weight I need to get rid of.
Of course in your case it's different, you have a small flat so even though you're definitely no pack rat it looks like twice as much because there isn't enough room. I hope the decisions you have to take are not too difficult. Do you think having different furniture could help with storage or am I watching too many Ikea commercials? Maybe your parents could even help out, it would be a one-time thing and would make your going back so much nicer.

If my parents were moving my stuff, they'd find out roomie's here and the shit would hit the fan.

Damn. I had forgotten about that. It is so nonsensical, viewed that your life is so much better by having him with you. But of course you're right.

Oh my I could only imagine what twenty years would bring. I feel for you love. I dreaded five years of moving. Best of luck

Try to look at it as getting a clean slate, like the biggest spring cleaning of your life. I'm sure it will look nice once all the nonsense is done.

I agree with hazel above, it is good to purge once in a while. Good for the soul and just think of all the stuff you find that you've forgotten you had. Also, good time to take everything to a flea market/swap meet and make a little extra money!

Unfortunately I have not had much luck with that. I could not get any $$$ for my old clothes and books when I tried to sell them before.
