I have no intention of turning away from my atheism but sometimes I wonder if I have some sort of specific purpose in this world and if so, what the hell is it?

I don't think you have to worry- I don't think that searching for meaning in your life would negate atheism. At least in my understanding of the term. Atheism doesn't exclude there being a purpose for life, just that the purpose isn't something dictated or designed by a god.

To be an inspiring and amazing friend. To show others that Asperger's isn't a hindrance but can be a unique part of someone's personality.

To show that being on disability doesn't mean you can't live a fun, exciting life. You have fun despite the fact (like me) you aren't rolling in the $.

To show that you can live without a man. I know you hate it sometimes, but you inspire me because you would like to be in a relationship but you won't settle for just any guy. (And don't you dare say one thing about your looks! You are beautiful inside and out. I have spoken. :P)

You're here to be a shining example of triumph over life's adversities.

Now I am done being all high minded. I think you're here because I need you in my life. How's that for a purpose?

From this end, it's not so much finding purpose but dreaming of what you want to do more than anything else that is within your capacity (for instance, you might as well forget being a running back for the Niners). That's how I've navigated the ever-shifting shoals. My, ain't we literary today!

ETA: When you dream/fantasize, don't let ANY REALITY get in the way. It might seem ridiculous or whatever at first, but what's at the heart of could be what you really want.

I don't think "having a purpose" has anything to do with atheism or theism, one way or another.
