Proof That House Was Not Always Written As The Total Fucking Psychopath The Writers Seem To Be Turning Him Into More Recently:

In "Forever", the scene where Chase walks into the conference room and says the baby died, House looks like he might cry.

I know, it's one of the things that put a bunch of my friends and family off the show.

Don't forget any of the scenes in the earlier seasons where House bonds with a patient on a personal level.

In S1 & 2 w/ Stacy he acted like a relatively normal adult. And he often enjoyed children, including clinic patients. He didn't seem so determined to be hurtful and jokey.

Caught a few old episodes during the summer. It's almost painful to watch anything from seasons 1 through 3. The scripts and characters were so much richer.

So let me ask you. Would you rather the show be put out of it's misery this season, or continue into season 9? Is any House better than none?

I want it to end after Season 8. Hasn't it urinated on itself enough?

I wanted the show to end in season 7, but found the reboot to be a pleasant surprise. I know you're not crazy about S8, but I'm glad to see House is more subdued than last year and has shown a bit of remorse for his antics. With that said, I'm ready for the series to end. I was tempted to stop watching after "Transplant" when he and Wilson made up. I don't think tptb have anything new to offer about the POTW or how each relates to House.

Something happened in S3, I think. Either the writers changed or they thought House should be this soulless asshole who doesn't give a shit about anyone or anything.

It's like they had to keep making the character more "extreme." He started out as a gruff, sarcastic, emotionally damaged man who did care about others underneath it all. He even bonded with his colleagues sometimes (like with Cameron at the monster truck show). I am much more interested in watching that character.

This is why I can't watch this season. House used to be a well-rounded 3-dimensional character. Now he's just a cardboard cutout of snidely whiplash twirling his mustache. Driving his car through Cuddy's house really pissed me off because the real House, who has now been taken over by the pod people, would never do that. He could've killed someone. I know this is old news, but it really hits a nerve. Then the way the writers talked about how he clearly knew they had left and how it was Cuddy's fault for breaking up with him seemed way to similar to the "her skirt was too short" justification to me. It's like aliens replaced all the characters with stereotypes. It makes me sad. This used to be my favorite show now I don't even bother. Anyway, I got off on a tangent there, sorry.

That. And the way he saved the malnourished child with the alternative but well-informed parents, proving he can be unselfish and caring in the middle of personal trouble.
I always interpreted the subsequent nonsense as an afterthought. Like, an atheist who does drugs legally and in a controlled, responsible way and is intelligent and moral and likeable and happy? We have to stop that! Without losing spectators if at all possible.
And I'll watch the show as long as it goes, since nothing can replace the actual sight of HL and RSL acting and slowly growing old. For everything else there's fanfic.

And yet in the very next episode he does (for only partially diagnostic purposes), torture the PoTW.

Not saying your completely wrong, but please don't try to sentimentalize early season House either. He may not be a psychoath, but he is certainly a bastard. (That's why I love him.)
