Chapter 4
Foreman stared out the car window. "I can't believe you talked me into this. You're just doing this because you feel sorry for House."
Chase sighed. "Yes, I do feel sorry for him, the guy's in prison and I think we should go visit him."
"So you're okay with him driving a damn car into Cuddy's wall?! He could have killed somebody!"
"No, I know what he did was wrong, but I can still feel sorry for him. I don't in any way condone what he did and I certainly don't think Cuddy had it coming or any bullshit like that, but House has been having a rotten time of it for a long time and I do feel bad for both of them. I knew they weren't going to work out as a couple but I never thought it would get that bad. Besides, you didn't hear this from me but Cuddy was a lousy girlfriend. She couldn't accept House the way he was."
"Why didn't you say anything to him about it earlier?"
Chase drove a little faster. "Do you think he would have listened to me if I had? He probably would have told me to fuck off."
"What makes you so sure he's not gonna tell both of us to fuck off now?"
"I'm not 100% sure he's not gonna tell both of us just that, but today is visiting day, I still care about the guy and I'm gonna make an effort."
"Make an effort, you actually baked the guy pumpkin cookies." Foreman rolled his eyes. "You owe me a big favor for this."
"Oh, Foreman, there are a couple of things we definitely should not bring up. One, don't brag to House about you getting his old job. The last thing he needs to hear about is your fat raise and redecorating his old office with that big mirror and all that."
"I'm not an idiot, I know better than to tell him about that."
"And whatever we do, we don't tell him who's got Cuddy's old job. If he knew who was running the hospital now he'd have a fit."
"Have a fit, hell, he'd blow up the hospital like the damn Joker."
Chase couldn't help laughing at this in spite of himself.
Foreman continued, "I still don't think he's gonna want to see us. I don't think he's gonna want to see anybody except maybe Wilson. Hey, do you have any idea what happened to Wilson? I haven't seen him around lately at all."
Chase shrugged. "No clue. I called him but I just kept getting his voice mail, I left messages but he never called me back, I went to his condo but he wasn't home, I definitely haven't seen him around the hospital recently."
Chase parked his car at the prison and he and Foreman went through the visitors' process and into the waiting room.
Foreman sighed, looking at the heavy glass wall separating the visitors from where the prisoners were about to be let in. He couldn't help remembering similar visits with his brother. Also, he hated to admit it, even to himself, but he couldn't help feeling a little sorry for House.
Especially when he saw him come in. He looked even more gaunt than usual, his limp seemed to have gotten noticeably worse and he just looked so sad and broken. He looked over at them and his large expressive eyes lit up with surprise--and, amazingly, a little happiness.
"What are you doing here?! You guys didn't have to come see me, but I'm glad you did," he said quietly, sitting down.
Chase said, "Of course we're going to visit you--"
Foreman interrupted, "Hey, what the hell is Wilson doing here?!"

31/8/11 23:01 (UTC)in my head fanon, Chase can cook, he just doesn't like doing it because it reminds him too much of having to get his own dinner when he was a kid because his alcoholic mom was too drunk to cook anything.

In a medium bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer. Beat in the pumpkin. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture until just combined. Stir in the white chocolate chips and nuts.
Drop the dough by rounded tablespoon 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 to 22 minutes.

31/8/11 19:41 (UTC)"Have a fit, hell, he'd blow up the hospital like the damn Joker." That fits House's normal reaction to a 'T'. The picture of HL in clown makeup comes to mind.
