OT, or maybe not: sometimes I regret not having a religious faith anymore. Praying is a good thing to do when you can't do anything else.

Yes, I can see that. On the other hand, there's the huge relief of never seeing a bunch of other people again (I did spend time wondering how that would work in my teenager years).

I know it's not nice to talk badly about dead relatives but my grandfather was a mean racist drunk so I'd really rather not see him again.
