Oct. 9th, 2022 10:50 amI'm really glad I decided to go to that event yesterday. It was goth city. The art was trippy as hell, everyone was super friendly, some amazing costumes including one zombie lady who stayed in character the whole time, great beer, yummy food (I had an impossible "meat" pie and a lemon muffin and some popcorn. A guy dressed like Nosferatu was working the popcorn machine ) and a great live band. I got into some great conversations about movies and poetry The lead singer in the band is really into Yeats. He told an amazing story about visiting Ireland and lying on top of Yeats' grave to sort of soak up his energy and a cop came along and asked him what he was doing. He expected to get busted or told to leave but it turned out the cop was just impressed with the fact that this guy loved Yeats and he said he wished more young Irish guys appreciated what a great writer Yeats was! The lead singer in this band is way into Irish culture so I made a point of telling him about what a great pub Slainte is and where it is. He's not from around here and had never heard of it. They were selling some really gorgeous crafts. They were also selling psilocybin candy but I'm not really into shrooms so I passed. I would have been happy to smoke weed with the goths though. It's weird how my memory works. One artist there's work consisted of old album covers painted up to look like horror scenes and I recognized an illustration from a book on human biology I had when I was a kid. It kind of makes me sad how many people think goths are a lot of psychos. They're perfectly nice if you don't get all judgey and shit.
