Day 11

a show that disappointed you

I hate to say this, but Fortysomething. The only part I liked was Hugh running around naked. I didn't find the rest of the show funny, I just felt sorry for him. His wife was a bitch to him for no apparent reason. It's funny on Fawlty Towers when Sybil bitches at Basil because Basil is a jerk and lies to her a lot and kind of has it coming, but Hugh is not a jerk on that show, he's very well meaning and just sort of depressed, and I don't blame him. his kids on that show are kind of annoying too and don't respect him at all. Also, his wife on that show was insane and an idiot because she was constantly refusing to have sex with him. If I was married to him I'd wear him out (but he'd be happy!)

His wife was a real bitch. I never understood wtf was going on with her. Plus, I was thoroughly annoyed with the actress.

His kids on the show annoyed me as well. The only one I thought was okay was the eldest son.

lol at the last sentence!

if I was married to ANY incarnation of Hugh I'd want to have sex with him all the time! well, maybe not Dr. Cockroach....

I actually liked the first 3 episodes. The last 3 I spent wishing Hugh would go on a killing spree.

I tend to agree with you. I like it cause I think Hugh delivers a very honest performance. But, I never understood why Estelle was so averse to having sex with him. As for the kids, I think they were pretty typical teenagers and Paul and Estelle seemed to encourage the disrespect.

heh. I bet if you were married to him you'd wear him out too.

His wife was played by the same actress who played the character who essentially replaces Jools in the 2nd series of Spooks.

I loathed the show for all the reasons you mentioned. Remember what I said about hating comedies based on discomfort and embarrassment? Prime example here.

The only things worth watching (aside from Nekkid Hugh) are the scene with Stephen Fry and Peter Capaldi's performance.

I just hope to Darwin (can't say hope to god 'cause I'm an atheist) that that show was not based on Hugh's personal life in any way.

Well, he did have that affair, but I don't think it was based on Jo treating him badly, as much as acting out based on his own insecurity. Mind you this is all pure speculation, but it seems to correlate which what is pubicly known.
