I really feel wiped out and my leg hurts so bad. Yesterday when the guy replaced my smoke alarms he signed me up for another guy to come in and spray to get rid of the roaches, which I'm happy about but he also told me the bug guy would probably have an issue with my apartment being dirty so I've been cleaning like crazy for a good sized chunk of yesterday and today and will do more later. I am also having a guy come in to do professional cleaning Saturday (I'm amazed he was willing to come in on New Year's!) He seemed to have the most reasonable rates and got very high ratings on yelp. Most of the cleaners wouldn't even answer the phone and the few that did wanted a lot more money. One guy even tried to scam me by asking me to email him my credit card number.
Then my DVD player died on me. I asked J to come over and take a look at it but he couldn't fix it and apparently they don't sell regular DVD players anymore, you have to buy a blu ray which is incompatible with my old TV so I have to buy a new TV too. Luckily, J did some online hunting and found some that weren't too expensive, so he and I and another friend will go shopping for them later this afternoon. I tried to talk to my dad about this and had to explain to him that blu ray players will play DVDs (he thought they didn't for some reason). He also thinks the pro cleaner guy will cost too much.
Had some of this:

Hooray for roach repellent! I don't know for certain that that's what was creeping into my house, but I am SO GLAD they are gone.

Sorry to hear about your DVD player. I didn't know a BluRay player could play DVDs either, lol. I just figured they wouldn't be able to, like every other electronics leap that left the previous format to rot.

If my DVD players kicks the bucket, I can get another at Goodwill. What I can't find is a laser disk player. I have a laser disk of Bambi, I've never had the equipment with which to play it.

I don't think you have much of a choice in hiring an outside cleaner to help you out. Your leg won't take much more abuse.

Bummer about the DVD player and TV. I leave such things up to DH. It's a PITA to get those things set up properly, and I can't understand the controls at all. Then again, I'm really not a fan of TV in general, and once we're retired and I reset all of our electronic feeds, we'll do more streaming, which is my preference anyway.

I hope you find something good that won't cost too much.

I'm glad someone mentioned thrift shops. I've been rather stunned at what electronics I've found there that actually work. Also glad blu-ray machines run basic DVDs. It would be rather silly if they didn't. Good luck with the hunt! :)
