I'm really scared. I went down to the front office to drop off my rent check like I do every month and the woman working there says she can't accept it because it's third party (my dad pays my rent because I'm on disability and can't afford to do it myself.) I told her it was always accepted before and she says it wasn't ever supposed to be in the first place. I called my dad and told him about this but he thinks I shouldn't worry about it. I don't know why. The woman at the front desk said she'd talk to her supervisor and call me back but she hasn't.

A "third party" check means that your dad wrote the check out to you, and you handed it over to the landlord. If your dad wrote the check out to the landlord, there should be no problem, and receptionist-bitch needs to learn what a 3rd-party check is.

yeah, I know. I told her this, I also told her the bldg has been accepting checks from him regularly and not saying anything about there being anything wrong with it, and she didn't care. She never called me back, either.

Sounds like someone is just wanting to be a pain in the neck to feel a little powerful for once. Can he make it out to the landlord directly? Or alternatively pay you and then you pay them? There must be easy workarounds for this.

the check is made out to the bldg directly. He can't pay me and then have me pay them because I'm on disability and social security would notice all that extra $$$$ going through my account and have a problem with it. People have gotten arrested for that.
