Why don't hobbits have foot washing stations next to their front doors? Their feet must get really dirty and their houses are nice and tidy, you'd think they'd have a big bucket of water and some soap, etc. there.

Maybe they're tucked away behind shrubs? Or at the back door? Bilbo, I imagine, wouldn't have one easily visible, because it would be like inviting visitors.
