I think this woman who works in my favorite cafe is selectively deaf. I was in there today and I said they seemed to be out of a lot of things. She didn't hear me. I ordered a cookie. She heard me just fine. Because of covid there is a rule there that they can't have more than two customers come in in the same group of people. Two parents and a little kid all came in at once because they apparently thought that rule did not apply to kids, which annoyed me and I made some comment about it to this same woman and she goes right back to not hearing a word of it.

Are you sure it does apply to little children? What if somebody is alone with three children under the age of five? Do you really expect the cafe to tell her that the kids have to stay outside the door?

that isn't what happened. Both parents came in with the kid. one of them could have stayed out.

Indeed, but you're saying that this rule always applies to children as well as adults. Are you certain that this is true?

I don't know, but what I do know is these people broke that rule when it was completely unnecessary to do so because they felt entitled because they had a kid.

No, you don't know that. You don't know that they broke that rule, because you've yet to determine whether or not it does apply to children. You also don't know that it was "completely unnecessary" because you don't know them, their child, or the situation. Sometimes a child who seems fine right now does, in fact, need two sets of eyes on them.

I should hope that if she, or any of my other friends, thought I said something wrong they wouldn't think I couldn't hear that.
