(written for The You Are The Patient House fic challenge. They say write what you know....)
The bad news, it's 4 AM, and I'm in pain like you wouldn't believe.
The good news is, the ER is only a block walk away. And there aren't any other patients here.
I'm describing my pain to a woman working the front desk at the ER. I think she's a nurse or a nurse's aide or something, she has red hair and her name tag says Amelia, I didn't get a good look at her last name. She took my blood pressure and my temperature and asked me what the pain was like. "It's really intense cramping, like when I had appendicitis, right here in the right side of my abdomen and going out my back here." I point.
"Did anybody else get this?"
"How should I know what everybody else is feeling?"
"I mean anybody else in your family."
"I don't know, I'm fifty two, I don't live with my parents. That's a ridiculous assumption."
I hear a chortle of laughter and look up into the face of this gorgeous man with huge steely blue eyes and a wicked grin and a week's worth of stubble. He says, "That is a stupid assumption, I don't know why Wilson slept with you."
Amelia grinds her teeth. "Can we discuss my personal life some other time, Dr. House?"
Another sharp stab of pain. I gasp and grab my side and moan. "Can someone PLEASE GET ME INTO AN EXAM ROOM AND DO SOMETHING, THIS REALLY FUCKING HURTS!"
"I couldn't agree more." He helps me up and onto a gurney. I can't help noticing how nice his touch feels, strong but gentle.
"Sorry I'm not being too nice," I mutter as another guy wheels me towards an exam room.
"Don't worry about it. You're in pain, you're about ready to 'nice' your foot up somebody's ass."
