Got this 5 question meme from [personal profile] delphi:

1. How would you spend the perfect day off?
Everybody who knows me knows I have a big crush on Hugh Laurie. I'd want to go with him on his motorcycle around Golden Gate Park so we could look at how beautiful it is, then have lunch (there are a lot of great restaurants near there but I don't know what kind of food he likes) then go to Amoeba because we're both music geeks, then get together at a party with lots of my friends that evening, then after the party we'd go someplace private and make love.

2. Which song or band would you recommend to someone who wanted to listen to something they might not have heard before? (i.e. what's your favourite B-side, rare track, or forgotten gem?)
As I said in #1, I'm a big music geek so I don't have one favorite, there are a lot of "B-sides, rare track and forgotten gems" I love. That being said, the first one that comes to mind is an album by the Greek rock band Aphrodite's Child called 666. It's not the satanic metal album you would think from the title although it has some amazing guitar work on it that I think most metal fans would appreciate. I don't really want to say too much about it as I think a first time listener should be surprised by some aspects about it, but it does an interesting job of combining a LOT of different styles of music. I can hear influences on it from everybody from John Lennon to 70's funk.

3. What was the last book you read that you really enjoyed?
I am in the middle of rereading Wicked. great book, VERY different from the musical.

4. What was the first piece of media you ever felt fannish about?
the Beatles

5. Where is your favourite place to go in your city?
I don't have one favorite, there are lots of them.

That's one heck of a day off. :D

Regarding #2, this was in part my selfish way of getting a rec from someone I know has vast and well-cultivated musical tastes. I had never heard of Aphrodite's Child, but I listened to 666 today and found the album amazing! I'm definitely going to pick up a copy if I can get my hands on it. The Beast, Hic et Nunc, and Break have been circling through my head all day, and Infinity is one of the most arresting pieces I've listened to recently. Thank you!

Oh my, you and I are so very different. But I liked your answers to the questions, and the answers are quintessentially you in microcosm.

I love the Wicked books ... I also love the musical, but for different reasons. I just love who Elphaba was and is as represented in the books.

That sounds like the perfect day off for you and sounds like a fun time!

I have Wicked in my TBR pile, glad to hear that it's good!
